I love doing cleanses as the weather gets warm. In fact, spring is the best time to cleanse the body, specifically the liver because detoxing should align with nature, and right now nature is rejuvenating and awakening from a long and hard winter… and our bodies are too. I started adding this recipe to my lunch bag because it took only 30 seconds to make and was a great addition to my day because it offers extra detox support while I prepare for a big juice cleanse.
The cilantro is a great chelator of heavy metals from the body, lime is incredibly alkalizing, cucumber is great for the skin, and the honey is antimicrobial. If you are strict vegan, switching out the honey with stevia is the best option because stevia is low on the glycemic index and therefore, won’t interrupt the benefits of the other ingredients, whereas raw sugar or agave might not be the best choice as it will cause a spike in blood sugar.
NOTE: For liver support, switch out the cilantro for 1/4 cup fresh dandelion leaves and use 2-3 tbsps of grapefruit juice instead of lime.
- 1 cm thick slice of cucumber
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- juice from one lime
- 500 mL of filtered water
- 1 tbsp raw honey or a few drops of stevia
- Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender. Pour over ice and garnish with a few sprigs of cilantro, a thin slice of lime, and a few thin slices of cucumber.
This drink is so refreshing and hydrating and I have become addicted to it!
